We saw Stary Night in New York and I was so impressed with the impact of that painting in real life. It is so good. So we had to go to the Van Gogh museum while we were in Amsterdam.

They had a special exhibit that was focused around his final works before he took his own life. My favorite was a series of wide landscapes that use color and light to great effect.

From across the room is a wheat field full of life and movement. Close up it’s dashes an blobs of color.

Knowing how expensive good oil paints are, I always think the excessive use of paint is why he was not as successful as he should have been while alive. He couldn’t break even.
Van Gogh was a beautiful artist with a very serious mental illness that ultimately ended his life. I am grateful for the things he left us while he was here.
