We stumbled across a system of twisting and turning pink pipes that made no hydraulic sense to my civil engineering brain.

They don’t drain, they are way up in the air, the head loss must be atrocious, what is happening here?

I looked it up and found that it is a pump system for dewatering the marshy ground. But why make it so hydraulically unfriendly? To prevent long segments from retaining water which could freeze in the winter and crack the pipe.
And why pink? Because they thought kids would probably like it better if it was pink. For more information check out the link below.
