The Sound of Music

In Salzburg we embarked on a 10 mile bike ride to all the sound of music sites.

How do you catch a wave upon the sand?

Let’s start at the very beginning. Photos from the abbey where Maria grew up.

I went inside to snap a photo and captured a brief video. This is the original version of How do you solve a problem like Maria. Roger’s and Hammerstein changed it up a bit.

8 children Maria leaves the abbey concerned about doing this job.

She probably came out these gates and saw a gaggle of Americans taking selfies with the view.

They gave Julie Andrew’s a stool to shoot this scene. I had to stretch to reach the water.

I’ve got confidence in sunlight, I’ve got confidence in rain.

I am not confident a child isn’t going to run into this shot.

The van trap children

The building used for the front exterior of the building is now a music school where our guide, a cellist, studied.

A hotel now where you can have a sound of music themed wedding.

The building used for the exterior back of the house on the lake where the kids and Maria fall out of the boat.

Finally the gazebo. It used to be at the house by the lake, but so many tourists were trespassing to recreate the 16 going on 17 scene that they had to move it to a public park.

Maria really did run away to the abbey after captain von Trapp told her he wanted to marry her. The mother superior said yeah you have to say yes, you are a penniless orphan, we got you this far, now you’re his problem. I guess Rodgers and Hammerstein changed that a bit too. Climb every mountain sounds nicer.
