Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Hungary and where all the locals go in the summer.

We visited Festetics Palace built in 1745. It is one of the 3 largest country homes in Hungary.

The grounds were beautiful with old trees and fountains.

The library was beautiful, two levels of books stacked double deep.

There was even a second room of books because they didn’t all fit.

I loved the dining room. The setting was perfect for our next dinner party.

They also had a big carriage exhibit. Lots of horse drawn sleigh and carriages and horse information. Seriously more carriages than I probably needed to see in my life.

After lunch we visited the lake. People were sitting with their shoes off on a short wall on the edge of the lake. This beautiful swan started swimming over towards where they were sitting.

They quickly got up and started putting on their shoes. They clearly had experience with this situation because the swan started bitting the man’s feet. Luckily he had his shoes on.

Then we went back to our hotel and enjoyed refreshing local white wine and swam in the pool.
