Katimama threw a party in our honor. Hungarian homes are usually fully fenced in with private landscaped front yard and backyard all within the fenced area.

This is the front yard of their house.
I got a tour of the house which is all on one floor. The homes generally have tile floors, small kitchens, and are spotless. Their house was immaculate.

The tour ended in the cellar where the wine, palinka, and other alcoholic beverages are stored.

David had also gotten introduced to the cellar and emerged at least half Hungarian.

The food started with Pörkölt over the fire pit. This was a couple hour labor of love by Zoltan.

While Zoltan nursed the main dish over the fire, Katimama and Ladybug worked in the kitchen.

I helped make nokedli with parsley to go with the Pörkölt, earning myself a place in the family.

Imipapa told me to wear a bikini to the party, but that got lost in translation.

It’s all about the flavor of that sauce. David and I are ready to put one of these fire pits in our back yard.

Dinner was served outside in the backyard at a nice table. The first course was so good and flavorful.

And of course served with a shot of palinka.

We had scoured the Hungarian grocery stores for the best old fashioned ingredients we could find.

So after dinner it was back to the cellar so I could share my favorite American drink with them.

I made more than a couple rounds of old fashioneds that night, or that’s what I’ve been told.
