We traveled to Miyajima Island to see the Itsukushima Shrine and the Otorii gate.

The shrine, appears to be floating on the water at high tide and on stilts during low tide. We arrived as the tide was coming in and got to watch it transform.

We walked around the town and tried lots of different things.

The girls had lemonade slushies, and we shared the momiji, a stuffed cookie, almost like a waffle.

These came in bright colors and were a lemon buttercream.

Later we had one that was apple pie flavored, Aris and I loved that one.

We also had some canolli type desserts, one filled with matcha and one lemon curd. The island is known for oysters, so we had those for lunch. Delicious!

The island is also known for their aggressive deer population. They will steal food out of your hands if you’re not careful. One tried to eat David’s shirt. Super cute though.

We spent a bunch of time watching the fish as the tide rolled in, that was cool. The there was an adorable puffer fish, I got a video of him, I’ll put on my Facebook page.

oh and David and I tried this fish cake on a stick. We still aren’t exactly sure how it was constructed, but it tasted pretty good.

look how adorable the fire trucks are!
